Möðrudalur is the highest settled farm in Iceland, 469 meters ( 1548 feet) above sea-level. It has been inhabited since early settlement in Iceland. Möðrudalur has served as a presbytery for centuries. The builder of the church in Möðrudalur was Jón A. Stefánsson (1880 - 1971). He was a great farmer as well as an artist and the altarpiece is made by himself. His son was Stefán ,,Stórval" Jónsson (1908 - 1994), a one of a kind character and a painter. The panorama view from the farm is interesting in many ways - judge for yourself. Our campsite is open from June to mid-September. For campers, and RVs we offer stays throughout the year depending on weather.

Leirubakki is an old manor farm in South Iceland, only 100 kilometres from Iceland’s capital, Reykjavík. Today the farm boasts a new hotel and an outstanding restaurant, in addition to facilities for meetings and conferences.  It is also an information centre for tourists and hosts the Hekla Centre, where one can enjoy an innovative and stylish exhibition on Iceland’s most famous and active volcano, Hekla.

Hekla is a massive, lofty mountain, 1,491 metres high, towering over the district to which Leirubakki belongs.

Leirubakki also has a camping ground and horse rentals, arranging horseback-riding trips lasting from one hour up to many days.  It is possible to purchase fishing permits at Leirubakki: the farm is located on the Ytri Rangá river, one of the main salmon rivers in Iceland, where over 14,000 salmon are caught each summer.

How to get there

Keflavík airport is 45 Km from the city centre. The Flybus operates in connection with all arriving flights and your seat is always guaranteed. The Flybus departs from Keflavik Airport 35-40 minutes after each flight arrival. Journey time to BSI Bus terminal in Reykjavik is approximately 45 minutes.

A taxi service from the airport is available. Taxis have official mileage meters and fares are charged at standard rates. Journey time to Reykjavik is around 45 minutes.

Hotel Heydalur is located in the beautiful valley of Heydalur, around 320 km from Reykjavík and 130 km from Ísafjörður. The hotel offers 59 beds in 19 rooms (all with private WC) as well as three summer cottages.

Hotel Kjarnalundur is a 66 room hotel, only 3,5 km from downtown Akureyri. Hótel Aldan of Seyðisfjörður consists of three old but extensively renovated houses two of which are located by the little pond in the heart of this quaint old town in the Norwegian Schweitzer-style. Hunkubakkar Guesthouse has to offer 20 rooms in total. There are six rooms with shared facilities, six bigger cottages for 3 and 4 persons and eight double rooms with private bathrooms.

Vatnsholt is a beautiful farmstead that has recently been completely renovated. The view from Vatnsholt is one of the most expansive in all of Iceland, with clear view of landmarks such as the islands of Vestmannaeyjar, the Eyjafjallajökull volcano, and the well-known mountains of Tindfjöll and Hekla. Vatnsholt is conveniently located 70 km from Reykjavik with an easy access from the main highway.

Hellishólar offers a 18 hole golf course with the rivers Þverá and Grjótá running through it. Surrounded by breathtaking nature, the golf course is both demanding and fun. Golf clubs and golfcarts are for rent. In addition, there is a driving range, pitch and put area and a par three mini course.  We also offer golf lessons for everyone, with special lessons available for ladies and couples. The school organises courses for 3 to 4 days which include instruction, accommodation and full board. All the instructors are highly qualified and the courses suit both beginners and those more advanced.

At Hellishólar you also find a horse rental, for individuals or groups, in association with our neighbouring farm, 2 km away. Guided tours around the area are available and suit people from any age group, skilled riders or first-timers.

Finally, Lake Hellishólar is well stocked with trout, with around a thousand rainbow trouts released into the lake each summer, weighing from 1.5 to 4 pounds. A large amount of oxygen in the water and good conditions make the trout being very lively. Fishing rods for children and grown-ups are for sale at Hellishólar.

Hótel Norðurljós (Hotel Northern Lights) is a family runned
hotel and has been a part of the history of Raufarhöfn for the

workers employed in the fish processing industry and at times
was the home for up to 200 "herring-girls" who came in the
summer months to salt herring at the "Odin's Station".  Towards
the end of the "herring adventure" at the end of the 1960's

How to get there

Keflavík airport is 45 Km from the city centre. The Flybus operates in connection with all arriving flights and your seat is always guaranteed. The Flybus departs from Keflavik Airport 35-40 minutes after each flight arrival. Journey time to BSI Bus terminal in Reykjavik is approximately 45 minutes.

A taxi service from the airport is available. Taxis have official mileage meters and fares are charged at standard rates. Journey time to Reykjavik is around 45 minutes.

Next to Mika is a mini market and gas station, Bjarnabúð, where you can find an excellent selection of products for such a small shop, and there you can also get hot dogs, sandwiches, ice cream, and petrol, to name a few. 

The hotel is based on a so-called “self-check-in” system with smart locks where our guests receive a code to access the front door and room when booking. The door to each room has a doorknob with a number lock that is electronically connected to the booking system, and the code is valid during your stay. It should be both simple and convenient to stay with us. No keys, no cards. Just remember the numbers or look at them on the phone and stamp them on the doorknob. We will welcome you in person until 10 PM each night if you prefer a more traditional check-in. Also, a short distance from our hotel is the Aratunga community center, and there you find a gym, swimming pool, and hot tubs. Arnanes Country Hotel is a family-run company, established in May 1993 in our own home, located in Nesjahverfi, 1,5 km from Arnanes.
In August 1993 we bought a part of the farm Arnanes (30 ha of land and 2 houses) and early spring 1994 we moved our home to Arnanes.

Our former home then became a guesthouse and still it is a part of our hotel with 5 rooms, a sitting room and living rooms, complimentary coffee and tea,TV and free internet access just like in all of our rooms.

1995 we renowated our house in Arnanes, starting with 4 rooms w. shared facilities on first floor with panoramic view to glaciers and mountains in Vatnajökull National Park.

In May 1996 we started our riding tours from Arnanes , 16 years later we are still going strong. The first 12 years I managed the riding tours myself but for the last 4 years my youngest son (23 years old) has been taking care of it.

In June 1997 we opened our restaurant in Arnanes with seats for 40 people.
At the same time we built 3 bungalows here in Arnanes, each with 2 rooms with bath.

Since then we have not built any new houses but instead we have tried to keep everything in good shape.

From the start we have wanted our guests to get the feeling of a home away from home here in Arnanes. Sence of hospitality and friendliness, wanting to visit us again some time in future.

Hotel Bifrost is a cosy hotel at a very beautiful and scenic location at the heart of Borgarfjordur. The hotel is located at the Icelandic ring-road - highway no. one - 102 km distance from Reykjavík and is therefore only one and half an hours drive away from Iceland´s capital.
