There is a family festival with many fun traditions, such as the "Sunday best" ski day, Easter egg hunt, and Gunnar Ólafsson's memorial tournament. Then the snowboarders are made high under their heads with neatly made snowboard tracks and platforms.

Kaldbaksferðir

Réttarholt 2, 601 Akureyri

Kaldbakur Tours offers during the winter trips up the mountain Kaldbakur which is 1.173m high, making it the highest peak on the northeastern side of Eyjafjörður, with panoramic views all the way east to Langanes and into the highlands of Iceland. Kaldbakur is known as one of Iceland’s Energy spots, and a trip up Kaldbakur is an unforgettable experience.

Kalbakur Tours operate two snow cats with a combined maximum capacity of 64 adults.  They are both open air so it is necessary to dress warmly according to weather conditions.  The journey up Kaldbakur takes approximately 45 minutes.   At the very top is a Cairn, which the Danish Kings Army erected in 1914.  We stop there for about 15 minutes to enjoy the magnificent view in all directions.  Our drivers point out various landmarks and are happy to answer any questions.  It’s also tradition to sign the guestbook, which is kept in the cairn.
Passengers can then choose to ski, snowboard, walk, sled or just sit back and enjoy the ride down again in the snow cat.  If the adventure bug bites, it’s possible to use one of our own design Icelandic snow sledges, especially made for adults. They are big and strong with enough room for two, great for the whole family.

Arctic Heli Skiing

Klængshóll, 621 Dalvík

Jökull Bergmann is the founder and lead guide of Arctic Heli Skiing. As Iceland's
first and only UIAGM-IFMGA certified mountain guide it is his and the entire team’s
pleasure to make your mountain adventure come true, be it in Iceland, Greenland or around the globe.

With over 20 years of experience guiding ski touring groups in the area, we extended our programs in 2008 to heli skiing, becoming the first heli ski operation in Iceland. Arctic Heli Skiing specializes in custom made exploratory Helicopter skiing adventures in the Troll Peninsula in Iceland and Greenland where we invite you to join us for a grand adventure of first descents, Northern Lights and skiing all the way down to the ocean, basking in the rays of the midnight sun. As Iceland’s premier heli ski operation we guarantee you that your safety and pleasure is our highest priority.
The potential for world class downhill skiing here is mind blowing, with vertical descents of up to 1500m or almost 5000ft. Our vast terrain covers more than 4000 square kilometers, or 1500 square miles of breathtaking Arctic mountains with terrain that suits every skiers ability be it extreme couloirs or wide-open glaciers. Our position just below the Arctic Circle with the mountains rising straight out of the sea allows for a skiing experience of a lifetime, skiing from summit to sea shore.

Check out our web page for great photos, videos and articles on skiing in Iceland. Our season starts at the end of February when we typically experience powder conditions and continues until the end of June with generally excellent corn skiing. The fact that the Troll Peninsula is surrounded by the Arctic Ocean makes for incredible opportunities for skiing right down to the ocean on stable coastal snowpack but also adds the excitement of Arctic weather and conditions. Throw in a mix of Northern lights, midnight sun, volcanic activity, hot springs, lava fields and a unique Viking culture and you will find that Iceland is a true adventure skiing destination.

We look forward to seeing you in the mountains.

Iceland Activities

Mánamörk 3-5, 810 Hveragerði

“Written by Úlfar, son of the family”

When it comes down to choose a travel operator/company or just how to spend your day in Iceland, then there are endless possibilities, allot of good companies and allot of not so good companies that are just in it for the money! So why chose Iceland Activities?

Our company ”Iceland Activities” is my family (my parents, my sister, grandma, girlfriend, brother in law and our closest friends and family). We did not create this company to become rich! We truly love what we do, we created this company to be able to do what we love every day and even on our days off, we are doing the same tours on our own.

We base all of our tours on our family experience, traveling together as a family since 1983 has built up a crazy amount of experience and knowledge of secret locations all over the South part of Iceland, some locations that only my family knows about still today. Creating tours that are well suitable to all level of fitness from families with young children to super adventures families or individuals.

On our journey from 1983 we have earned a well-spoken reputation as an outdoor family and known for seeking out the sports that were not as common, my father was one of the first ones to modify his jeeps and we are proud to be one of the first mountain bikers of Iceland and the only local MTB guides on the Hengill volcanic area, guides who grew up mountain biking and exploring the area on tracks made by the Icelandic sheep.

Today we offer a good selection of tours, ranging from two hours up to multi-day trips, and overnight camping tours focusing mostly on the off the beaten path experience. We can tailor made everything about the tour and set up the tour as you like, we could keep it more raw or have it quite luxurious and high class but still remote. We could keep the days more active or more easy going. It really depends on your choose, our aim is to enjoy the day with you.

Some of the things we offer:

Super jeep tours ● Mountain bike tours ● Hike tours ● Lava caving ● Surfing ● Team building ● food tasting ● Snowshoeing ● Sightseeing ● food tasting and culture tours ● zip line ● Skiing ● rock climbing ● camping ● Ice hockey ● Curling

Staff and guides: family members and close friends and we are all Icelandic :)

Locations: Iceland Activities family headquarters are located in Hveragerði, the Icelandic capital of hot springs. Hveragerði is 45 km east of the capital Reykjavík (30 minutes drive on highway 1).

Contact us and we will customize a tour for you, your friends or family. We specialize in having small groups and we never mix into big groups, so your experience will be better. When bigger groups book with us 6 persons or more then the tours are automatically private.

Akureyri ski resort is located just 10 minutes’ drive from the center of the town and is a great area for mountain biking and hiking during the summertime.

The chairlift Fjarkinn is the main lift during summer but this year the upper chairlift will be open as well, Fjallkona, for 5 weekends so it is possible to reach over 1000m height with lifts.

The only bike park in Iceland is in Hlíðarfjall with great trails throughout the mountain that also connect down into Glerárdalur and even all the way out to Kjarnaskógur forestry.

The area is also a great place for hikers which can enjoy the views of Eyjafjörður and hike in the beautiful landscapes above Akureyri. There are quite a few options to hike around the mountain and also possible to hike to the top, to the Harðarvarða cairn for example. Hiking guests can hike down or use the lifts to get back so almost anyone can come with to the mountain, young or old.

Hlíðarfjall opening period summer 2024 is as follows:

Fjarki chairlift – July 11 to September 8 – Thursday to Sunday

Fjallkona chairlift – July 27 to August 25 – Saturdays and Sundays
