Iceland Activities

Mánamörk 3-5, 810 Hveragerði

“Written by Úlfar, son of the family”

When it comes down to choose a travel operator/company or just how to spend your day in Iceland, then there are endless possibilities, allot of good companies and allot of not so good companies that are just in it for the money! So why chose Iceland Activities?

Our company ”Iceland Activities” is my family (my parents, my sister, grandma, girlfriend, brother in law and our closest friends and family). We did not create this company to become rich! We truly love what we do, we created this company to be able to do what we love every day and even on our days off, we are doing the same tours on our own.

We base all of our tours on our family experience, traveling together as a family since 1983 has built up a crazy amount of experience and knowledge of secret locations all over the South part of Iceland, some locations that only my family knows about still today. Creating tours that are well suitable to all level of fitness from families with young children to super adventures families or individuals.

On our journey from 1983 we have earned a well-spoken reputation as an outdoor family and known for seeking out the sports that were not as common, my father was one of the first ones to modify his jeeps and we are proud to be one of the first mountain bikers of Iceland and the only local MTB guides on the Hengill volcanic area, guides who grew up mountain biking and exploring the area on tracks made by the Icelandic sheep.

Today we offer a good selection of tours, ranging from two hours up to multi-day trips, and overnight camping tours focusing mostly on the off the beaten path experience. We can tailor made everything about the tour and set up the tour as you like, we could keep it more raw or have it quite luxurious and high class but still remote. We could keep the days more active or more easy going. It really depends on your choose, our aim is to enjoy the day with you.

Some of the things we offer:

Super jeep tours ● Mountain bike tours ● Hike tours ● Lava caving ● Surfing ● Team building ● food tasting ● Snowshoeing ● Sightseeing ● food tasting and culture tours ● zip line ● Skiing ● rock climbing ● camping ● Ice hockey ● Curling

Staff and guides: family members and close friends and we are all Icelandic :)

Locations: Iceland Activities family headquarters are located in Hveragerði, the Icelandic capital of hot springs. Hveragerði is 45 km east of the capital Reykjavík (30 minutes drive on highway 1).

Contact us and we will customize a tour for you, your friends or family. We specialize in having small groups and we never mix into big groups, so your experience will be better. When bigger groups book with us 6 persons or more then the tours are automatically private.

Fjord Bikes

Bakkavegur 9, 720 Borgarfjörður eystri

Borgarfjörður eystri (in east Iceland) is one of those places where you can always look into the distance and see something incredible that you would love to experience up close. Mountain Biking allows you to get personal with nature, yet also lets you experience the thrill and speed of zooming through the landscape. Combine this with the striking natural landscape of the area surrounding Borgarfjörður eystri and you are in for an unforgettable ride.

We at Fjord Bikes invite you to experience with us the amazing birdlife, the natural wilderness area and historic fishing village of Borgarfjörður eystri. Close to the town you can find the Puffin Marina, which is by far the best place to see the fabled Atlantic Puffin up close. In the surrounding areas you can get into the wilderness. This is an area in the surrounding viks and fjords, where decades ago there was a vibrant agrarian society, now deserted and reclaimed by nature. There you can find beautiful waterfalls, expansive vistas, valleys, and gulches made of the colourful rock called Rhyolite. Ride the long way around to the black sand beach in Breiðavík, where rhyolite rocks polished by crashing waves give the sand a splash of colour. Brave up the challenging old trading route Sandaskörð to witness the beauty of the highlands surrounding Mt. Dyrfjöll and the unrivalled natural splendour of Stórurð. When biking in Borgarfjörður, you’ll always find something new to do.

GPS 64.022585, -21.212203

Icebike Adventures is a family-owned & operated company passionate about mountain biking and the outdoors.

We will bring you to our favourite areas in the country. Often unmarked and unmapped trails. We keep our group sizes small to ensure that we can provide outstanding service for every guest. We donate our time trail building in various areas of the island and we maintain the trails we ride. Icebike Adventures is the leading bike tour operator in the country and we work hard to promote and improve biking in Iceland.

Iceland's biking scene is young, and legislation on biking is still forming. The highlands are vast areas of unique untouched nature. As the summer is short, the vegetation only has 6-8 weeks to grow and recover each year. We tailor our trips to make no harm to nature, and we promote practices that will keep our wilderness intact for future generations. Please help us keep trails open to riders by riding respectfully.

Our riding roots run deep, and our passion is to innovate and deliver a world-class adventure. At the end of the day, we just love to ride our bikes, and it shows.

We offer a family friendly tour that all generations can enjoy, thanks to our all new signature walkway and feature lighting. For those who desire more physical activity we offer a half day tour to the caves end.

Caves are often dark, tight and uninviting places; how ever this is not the case in Víðgelmir lava cave. What used to be slow traveled rugged terrain is now easy and enjoyable. Leading from one great hall to the next our path is lit slightly flowing through this magical underworld.

HORSE RENTAL:
During summer we offer visitors daily tours through the valleys of the ‘Westfjord Alps’ near Þingeyri, crossing rivers and heading out towards the black sand beaches along the fjord. Half day (after 1pm): 7.500 ISK
Included: bike, helmet, repair kit and a map. Pickup in the coffee house.
If possible, kindly book a day in advance.

Riding Routes:
For experienced riders, the legendary Svalvogar route is a circle around a peninsula leading from Dýrafjorður into the next fjord, Arnarfjorður. One part is carved directly out of the steep rocks, other parts follow the shores so closely that you have to be aware of the changing tides. It’s a whole day activity that takes you through breathtaking scenery, impassable by regular cars and best experienced on a mountain bike. Keep in mind that the route can be extremely challenging; the full loop takes riders over rough terrain and over the Kaldbakur mountain pass.

The 49 km can be done in 8 hours (for experienced riders).

For those who are up for a bit of a challenge but don´t want to scale the mountain pass, biking out to the lighthouse at the end of the peninsula and back is a great option. The round-trip ride typically takes about 4 hours.

Other more leisurely rides include cycling down to the waterfall at the bottom of the fjord and circling back along the other side. The route is approximately 25km of flat road and takes about 4 hours.

Feel free to ask in the coffeehouse for more information about cycling routes.

Opening hours this summer: 10:00-18:00 every day.

We are also an artist residency in the winter time.  For more info isit: www.westfjordsresidency.com
