Arngerdareyri
Arngerðareyri is a desolated farm in the outer part of Ísafjörður in the bottom of Ísafjarðardjúp in the Westfjords. The road overlooks the house
up on Steingrímsfjarðarheiði. The house that still stands is a stone house in a castle style. It was originally
built for the merchant manager of the Merchant Company of Nauteyrarhreppur, and the house had from the earliest times running water and
bathroom. There once was a shop, a "traffic center", a telephone station and a school. Shopping began in Arngerðareyri around
1884 owned by Ásgeirssen, merchant in Ísafjörður and managed by farmer Ásgeir Guðmundsson at Arngerðareyri.
A boat sailed from Arngerðareyri to Ísafjörður while there were no or bad roads through Ísafjarðardjúp.
Arngerðareyri was abandoned in 1966.
